COCHISE MARBLE COMPANY

Tucked away in southeast Arizona’s Chiricahua Mountains in Cochise County is the 110-year-old Cochise Marble Quarry. The marble deposit in Bowie, Arizona is expansive, covering over 320 acres. The quarry was established in 1908 with the original marble camp featuring only a place to eat, a couple of wooden houses, a group of tents, and a four-stall barn. To transport the blocks to be shipped, the quarry used two 110-horsepower steam tractors which pulled wagons that held the blocks. The quarry thrived for almost three decades before halting production in 1937. During its operating period, Arizona was also ranked as one of the top five producers of architectural marble.

In 2002, the Klump family purchased the quarry with a vision to not only bring the quarry back to life but to bring this highly prized material back into the stone market. By 2013, the Klump family broke new ground at the quarry. Through the use of modern quarrying techniques, some of the highest quality marble was able to be pulled right from the Arizona desert – and thus, Cochise Marble Company was born. The advanced technology implemented by the Klumps has built a lasting operation that continues to this day.

WHY WE’RE DIFFERENT

THE ROCKS

Our marble is cut from distinctively premium portions of the quarry which allows each piece to be unique and one-of-a-kind. No two pieces are alike, but each offers the beauty and quality to compete with international stones. From our rare and luxurious Apache Select, featuring large dramatic veins of black, gray, and white, to our classy and modern satin white Geronimo with contrasting black veins, our stones are perfect for any use. We’ve seen our stones used for a variety of projects. From counters and fireplaces to walls and floors our marble has been able to help many achieve the home or business aesthetic of their dreams.

THE PROCESS

Our team has over 50 years of combined experience mining rock and being mindful of the surrounding land. Incorporating the most advanced technology and quarrying techniques, we have been able to continue mining while staying mindful of our beautiful Arizona landscape.

THE QUALITY

We have the highest quality and purity of stones available in a wide range of colors and finishes. Our testing data has shown that our marble has an absorption rate of 0.1%. This nearly null number means that our marble is less likely to stain and will withstand the elements when used outdoors. One of our greatest feats compared to other marbles that are similar in pattern is the lack of weaknesses present in the veins. Typically, veins can contain natural flaws due to the materials that are present while our veins just enhance the color and look.
